The Department of Zoology was established in the year 1967 under the able leadership of Rev. Sr. Rockie Maria. The department offers B.Sc. Zoology Main Course, as well as Zoology as a complementary subject for B.Sc. Botany programme. The Department has a well equipped library with more than 200 books. Museum with around 1000 specimens is a treasure trove of a variety of rare preserved specimens. We have separate sections for specimens, models and charts.
The department has all potentials for research with constantly updated laboratory. Laboratory equipments for studies in anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, biotechnology and microbiology are integrated in the department.
The department aims at developing students with the help of approaches involving technology identification, training and project work through feasible studies. We strive to create an academic environment in which intellectual, professionally creative and socially acceptable values are upheld.
The B.Sc., Zoology course lays foundation for all life sciences. The curriculum provides an opportunity to learn fascinating diversity of Animal life, an insight into the Research Methodology, Laboratory Equipments and Techniques, Ecology and Evolution, basics in Biotechnology, Microbiology and Immunology etc.
Quality teaching to enable girl students, to develop intellectual curiosity and to discover their own potentials to achieve academic excellence & to promote professional research in the discipline as well as its frontier areas.

Extension/ Outreach Activities
Zoology Department has two UG Labs, Microbiology Lab, Bio-informatics Lab & a library (200 books). UG labs with facility for Dissection (Compound Dissection Microscope), Taxonomy (Stereo Zoom Microscope), Histopathology (Microtome), Molecular Biology (Micro centrifuge, Electrophoresis Unit) and Physiology & Biochemistry (Kymograph, Centrifuge & Digital Colorimeter). A well equipped Microbiology Lab (LAF, Orbital Incubator Shaker, Trinocular Microscope, Hot Air Oven, and Magnetic Stirrer) & Bio-informatics Lab (Computers (8), Laser Printer/ Scanner, LCD Projector) is also available.
