Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. (Nelson Mandela)

A warm welcome to the new academic year 2017 -18! Our founding father Saint Chavara Kuriakose Elias foresaw the immense possibilities of education when he envisioned the Congregation of Mother of Mercy. The most effective weapon to bring about positive changes in the world is undoubtedly education .This is best achieved through the education of women. As the saying goes, educating a woman means educating a family which, in turn, will foster an enlightened nation. Keeping in this mind, Mercy College, one of the first women’s colleges in the district, has consistently striven for the betterment and empowerment of women through education. I am very happy to say that, with the blessings of Mother of Mercy, our college has made significant strides in fulfilling the vision of our forefathers. At present, the college offers 12 UG courses and 8 PG courses. The primary emphasis of the college is on the holistic development of students. Apart from achieving academic excellence, students are exposed to a wide variety of enriching experiences through the various co-curricular and extension activities offered by the college. They are provided ample opportunities to acquaint themselves with the latest trends in their chosen academic disciplines. The college also provides numerous platforms for the students to nurture and showcase their talents. Above all, students are inculcated with an abiding sense of values that will enable them to develop into well-adjusted global citizens. In keeping with demands of the changing scenario of education, Mercy, too, is gearing to rise up to the challenges by undertaking many new projects this year. Improvement of infrastructure facilities and introduction of new academic programmes are some of the projects to be introduced this year. Added to this, the ongoing programmes and the academic schedule for the year 2017-18 promises to be an interesting year so far as the Mercians are concerned. Let me also take a moment to cast a glance at the year that has been. My first year in the office of Principal of Mercy College has been an enriching and rewarding experience. I thank each and every Mercian who has contributed to the smooth and efficient functioning of the college. This concerted effort, I believe, is the hallmark of Mercy. I look forward to your continued support this year as well. With the blessings of God Almighty and Mother Mary as our strength and succour, let us usher in the new academic year!
